Poker Psychology

Poker is one of the hardest games to learn to play. It’s not that it’s hard to understand the game; it’s just hard to keep your opponents from knowing what a good or bad hand you are holding. When you play in a live casino you can see the faces of the players you are playing against and look for their tales. These tales can indicate whether your opponent has a good hand or is stressed about having a bad hand.
Unfortunately, in online poker, it’s not as easy to tell how your opponent feels about the hand they have. In online poker you don’t see your opponents face. The most you will get is an avatar or a virtual person that acts as the player. Since you can’t see your opponents face or notice their nervous ticks it’s impossible to gauge their chances for winning.
In online poker the best you can do to out psych your opponent is to talk to them via in game chat. Most sites give players a text chat box where they can chat back and forth with each other. In the online world that’s your best bet for guessing how another players hand will hold up to yours and more importantly how you will hold up against them.
If you are playing online look for opponents that are overly chatty as they may be chatting to try and draw attention away from their poor hand. It might take you a while to get used to the difference between casino poker and online poker but in the end you will have fun playing online.
